Frequently Asked Questions
Everything students commonly ask before starting their Japan journey — answered clearly.
For language schools in Japan, you typically need at least JLPT N5 or beginner-level Japanese to enroll. For university undergraduate programs, N2 or higher is usually required. For the Specified Skilled Worker (SSW) work visa, you need to pass the relevant skill test and a Japanese language evaluation test equivalent to approximately N4 level. Suiren prepares students to meet these exact standards through structured classes.
The complete process — from initial counseling to arriving in Japan — typically takes 6 to 12 months. This includes document preparation (2–3 months), school application and admission (1–2 months), and Certificate of Eligibility (COE) processing by Japanese immigration (2–4 months). We guide you through each stage and keep you on track with a clear timeline from day one.
Key documents include: a valid passport, academic transcripts and certificates, a personal statement (letter of motivation), bank statements showing sufficient funds (usually for 1–2 years), a sponsor's financial proof if applicable, passport-sized photos, and application forms from the accepting school. Japanese immigration may also request additional documents. Suiren reviews and verifies all documents before submission to minimise delays or rejections.
Annual tuition at Japanese language schools typically ranges from ¥700,000 to ¥1,000,000 (approx. NPR 630,000–900,000). Monthly living costs in cities like Tokyo range from ¥80,000–¥120,000. Part-time work (up to 28 hours/week on a student visa) can help cover living expenses. Some schools offer partial scholarships or early application discounts. Suiren advises on the most cost-effective school options based on your budget.
Yes. With a student visa, you are permitted to work up to 28 hours per week during the academic term, and full-time (up to 8 hours per day) during designated school holidays. You must obtain a "Permission to Engage in Activity Other than that Permitted under the Status of Residence" from your local immigration office upon arriving in Japan. Suiren provides full pre-departure guidance on this process.
The Specified Skilled Worker (特定技能, Tokutei Ginou) visa allows Nepali nationals to work in Japan in specific sectors such as nursing care, food service, manufacturing, construction, and agriculture — without needing a university degree. You must pass both a skills assessment exam specific to your industry and a Japanese Language Proficiency Test at approximately N4 level. Suiren prepares candidates with targeted language training and full placement support.
Suiren's support doesn't end at the airport. We provide pre-departure orientation covering travel documents, customs, airport procedures, and life in Japan. We also assist with finding student accommodation, guide you on opening a Japanese bank account, registering at city hall, and obtaining your Residence Card. Our team remains reachable for any questions or concerns you face during your early months in Japan.
